Ceramic or SG grit is a newer grit type. It works well in demanding production environments where heavy stock removal and wheel life are factors. The grit is unique in that it stays very sharp and free cutting. Not recommended where burning is an issue. Typically run wet due to cost of wheel and extended wheel life with coolant. In some cases, ceramic grit wheels can be significantly more expensive than a conventional wheel which can make these wheels seem "exotic" to many people; However, if used properly, they can last 3 to 4 times longer.
